Had the pleasure of attending another one of Michael Reynold's classes again this morning. Mike is the founder of Earthship Biotecture. Watch "Garbage Warrior" to learn more about him--truly a fascinating story (as of 10/16, it is free to watch via Amazon Prime)!

We wrapped up our week at U2 continuing to work on the soffits. Today though, we were measuring and cutting wood pieces to put underneath the insulation we had installed yesterday. This was quite the painstaking process. My classmate and I went up and down our respective ladders no less than five times (for the same dang piece of wood), making measurements, and hauling this monstrosity up with us each time. Then, we'd team up with our manager who helped to make the cuts. Unfortunately, they were not clean rectangular measurements and cuts due to the spire-type structure on the corner of the building. The highlight of the day was when I heard a man's voice below me, "I don't like that." I looked down to see Mike Reynolds himself holding my ladder! I simultaneously felt idiotic and giddy. In my defense, I was not the one to rig the ladder, but this mistake was a team effort--needed more of a vertical angle.

After class, most of us headed over to Carson Cafe for karaoke night. Like the Greater World Earthship Community, this place was in the middle of nowhere, but had a fun vibe. There were a ton of locals hanging out both around the pig roast happening out front, and the karaoke setup abutting the deck. I was just a spectator, but many of my classmates gave it a go and put on quite the show!
