Today was a great day of learning! Was a little confused in our first classroom session of the day though, trying to dust the cobwebs off my high school math skills--something I had intentionally avoided for a while (and quite honestly had no real use for over the past 15 years).
This afternoon marked our first time actually doing work on the job site. We were at U2 with Gunnar. I worked with my classmates Mary and Kelly under the direction of Julayne to install soffit insulation. We got the hang of it after a while, despite some pretty precarious ladder work. Also, Julayne has the cutest dog ever--Bowie--who just hangs out at the job site and makes everyone smile.
While we were working, I overheard one of the staff say there had been an accident on the other site. Someone had fallen, injured their wrist, and had to be taken to the ER. Spent a lot of time wondering who it may have been. Turned out to be one of the older guys in our class. Apparently he slipped in a mud puddle enroute to the job site and hadn't even had the chance to do any work before that happened. He ended up breaking his wrist. Although he came to class for a couple days after the accident, I heard he had surgery and haven't seen him the last few days. I believe they're giving him a refund and are welcoming him back to a future Academy session once he heals, which makes sense.
