We had our safety instruction session on the job site today after class and had the opportunity to learn how to (safely) use tools like a grinder, drill, impact driver, table saw, skillsaw, and chop saw. It was really neat to see these different tools in action and to be able to give each one a go. I was even able to cut through a piece of rebar with a grinder! Needed a little re-direction when using the table saw...used the non-preferred hand to shut it off. We learn!
After our safety instruction on the job site today, we took a field trip to the Reach community. The acronym stands for Remote Earthship Alternative Community Habitat. It was a short, but tough hike (the altitude kicked my butt); I don't know how the heck trucks make it to the higher Earthships. 10,000 ft altitude and a 45 degree incline, basically the whole way up. Beautiful, but cannot imagine living up there. We spotted a hearty deer up there, which was pretty cool! On the flip side, it was sad to see some of the Earthships in such disrepair. I wonder if they'll ever be brought back to life. Also, mind the deck!
