Last week of class! Today in class (we just had one), we covered food production in Earthships. While a super interesting topic, I couldn't help but feel there was a missed opportunity. Our instructor was great, but he was also teaching virtually. In an environment where there are actual greenhouses to go into, observe, and talk about, I'm not sure why we had to sit in class watching a screen. Maybe that's just me?
Anyhow, after class, we had the opportunity to tour two Earthships that are available as nightly rentals. The first was an Encounter model with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. It was beautiful and seemed to be just the size I'm looking for. The greenhouse was wider than the Earthship I am staying in, which I really appreciated. No getting slapped in the face by a fig tree while making your way to the bathroom at 2am...
The other rental we toured was their flagship, the Pheonix. I heard it is worth an estimated $1.5M. The range of cost for an Earthship is very wide; it's totally dependent on the model and functionality you are seeking. While I was super impressed by the Phoenix (it even had birds and koi fish living in it!), it was way too much house for me. Still, a very fun building to tour/experience and get ideas from!
