A beautiful morning to make the trek down to Santa Fe to visit Richard and Sandra! First thing I saw stepping out of my simple survival Earthship was an amazing sunrise over the Sangre de Cristo range--absolutely breathtaking! After driving for about 15 minutes, I saw a hot air balloon that had just taken off over to my right. Had to stop and take some pics--so cool! Definitely on my bucket list!
I arrived in Santa Fe around 9:45am. We headed into town shortly thereafter and took in a lot of the sights, from the Georgia O'Keefe Museum to the Railyard to Canyon Road. O'Keefe was a very interesting woman who used to frame her paintings through bones (I believe a wolf pelvis was her perspective of choice...). There was an Interplanetary Festival happening down near the Railyard; still trying to make sense of what exactly that means. Canyon Road was quite the sight to see! Every other building was a gallery or art studio--so much to take in! At one point, I was two feet away from a $70,000 painting (yikes!). Also stopped in at La Casa Sena for a quick bite to eat--Calamari and a Mediterranean Trio (hummus, eggplant, and piquillo-almond) with pita!
When we returned to the house, my hosts served up a most delicious homemade dinner of shrimp scampi over orzo followed by an out-of-this-world double layer chocolate cake. I observed--then learned how to play--backgammon, and after a few matches, we called it a night. What a day! Thanks again, Richard and Sandra!
