10/20/22 (Thursday)

This morning, we had an Earthship maintenance class with Marcus--pretty neat stuff! Even saw two hot air balloons in the air on the way over. Marcus took us into the building that houses Mike's office and demonstrated how to clean the filters on a WOM (water organizing module); showed us how to monitor the gray water planter (where I saw the most gigantic and oddly-shaped potato I've ever seen in my life); showed us how to monitor the cistern catchment; and explained how the batteries on the roof worked. I'd say the highlight was being able to walk through Mike's office; it was so surreal!

There were only three of us students at U2 this afternoon. One of my classmates and I followed George to an area just beyond the Visitor Center that was basically a "wood graveyard." Our task was to find as many 2'+ pieces of wood as possible, and pile them into the back of his truck. These pieces are going to be used to create a reclaimed wood ceiling over the carport portion of U2. We filled up his truck bed, then drove back over to the job site. We spent the rest of the day pulling apart old pallets and removing nails, screws, and staples from old pieces of wood.
