Today was my favorite day on the job-site so far. We were working on U3 with Phil, who is an incredible instructor and on-site manager. He has the best sense of humor and the stories he tells legitimately make me burst out laughing. I partnered with my classmate Kelly on the roof where we sanded and nailed boards to the back of the roof. We got in a delivery of materials on a flatbed, which I also helped to unpack--some rebar, nails, and layout string. I also served as an anchor weight for my classmate Troy as he made some cuts with a skillsaw.
At one point, I heard a chainsaw start up on the roof. I looked behind me to see Phil cutting the excess wood off of the massive vigas. What a sight to see! He was partially leaning over the edge of the roof ripping through the massive logs, readjusting mid-way to come at it from a different angle, until the excess wood fell to the ground. I wish I had been able to see the crew install the vigas. I can't imagine how they got them into place across the tires--I am assuming there was a crane involved.
